In the study, this injection was tested on 102 people who were suffering from incurable head and neck cancer

A recent trial has revealed that a new cancer injection can show surprising results even in patients for whom hope for a cure has almost disappeared. The triple-action injection, called Immunotamba (which is already available to some patients), blocks the growth of proteins and enzymes that help cancerous tumors evade the immune system. It also stimulates white blood cells to kill cancer cells more effectively.

The study tested the injection on 102 people with incurable head and neck cancer. After using the injection, 42% of the patients had their tumors shrink. Most surprisingly, 15 patients (where all other drugs had failed) had their tumors completely disappear.

Head and neck cancer includes tumours of the tongue, throat and various parts of the mouth. It is the ninth most common type of cancer in the UK and affects about 13,000 people each year. The study’s lead author, Kevin Harrington, said these were extraordinary results in patients whose disease It had become resistant to both chemotherapy and immunotherapy. Treatment options for this group are extremely limited, so seeing such a clear benefit is very encouraging.
