ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a heavy rain alert for the Potohar region and upper parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, forecasting thunderstorms and intense rainfall from September 14 to 17.
According to the NDMA, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Murree, the Galiyat region and adjoining mountainous areas are likely to receive thunderstorms and heavy rain.
Several districts of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are also expected to experience heavy rainfall, including Dir, Swat, Buner, Malakand, Shangla, Battagram, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan and Peshawar, along with surrounding areas.
Weather models have forecasted the possibility of occurrence of torrential rains in short duration due to approaching weather conditions.
The probable rains could cause localized flooding in low-lying areas and towns, as well as in streams and rivers. In hilly regions, torrential rains could cause flash floods, fast flow of streams and landslides.
The NDMA has asked the people to be vigilant about such weather conditions and not venture into low-lying areas and water streams.
