The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Sunday issued a nationwide weather alert warning of thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, strong winds, urban flooding, and possible glacier-related flood threats over the next 12 to 24 hours.

According to the NDMA’s National Emergencies Operation Centre, the current weather system aligns with seasonal forecasts issued earlier, and authorities have already been sharing advance warnings with federal, provincial, and district administrations.

The alert predicts widespread rain accompanied by thunderstorms, windstorms, and dust storms across multiple regions of the country. In Punjab and Islamabad, rainfall is expected in several cities including Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Sialkot, Gujranwala, and surrounding districts. Authorities have warned of possible urban flooding in low-lying areas.

In Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir, thunderstorms and rain are forecast across major valleys and districts, with an additional risk of glacial lake outburst floods (GLOF) in vulnerable mountainous zones.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is also expected to experience widespread rain and thunderstorms, affecting districts such as Peshawar, Swat, Chitral, Mansehra, Abbottabad, and surrounding areas.

Balochistan is likely to receive scattered rain and thunderstorms in southern and central regions, while parts of Sindh, including Karachi, Sukkur, Larkana, and Jacobabad, may face strong winds, dust storms, and isolated rainfall.

Citizens, especially tourists and travellers, have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall and to stay updated through official weather alerts. People have also been urged to remain cautious in mountainous regions where road closures and landslides may happen.
