ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather alert forecasting rain, thunderstorms and strong winds in several parts of the country.
According to the authority, widespread rainfall accompanied by thunder and gusty winds is expected in multiple districts of Punjab, including Rawalpindi, Murree, Chakwal, Mandi Bahauddin, Sargodha, Gujar Khan, Gujrat, Jhelum, Sialkot, Talagang, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Lahore, Faisalabad, Khushab, Jhang and Mianwali.
The NDMA said rain is also likely in various areas of Gilgit-Baltistan, including Skardu, Diamer, Astore, Ghizer, Hunza, Ghanche and Shigar. Similar weather conditions are expected in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Bagh, Kotli, Poonch, Hattian, Mirpur and Bhimber.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rainfall has been forecast for Chitral, Dir, Swat, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Swabi, Mardan, Charsadda, Peshawar, Kohat, Parachinar, Karak, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan and Waziristan.
The disaster management authority has also warned of the risk of Glacier Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs) in Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir due to prevailing weather conditions.
Meanwhile, thunderstorms and rain are expected in parts of Balochistan, including Turbat, Kech, Awaran, Khuzdar and Zhob, as well as several districts of Sindh, including Jacobabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Khairpur, Dadu, Ghotki, Kashmore, Shikarpur, Shaheed Benazirabad and Karachi.
The NDMA has directed provincial and district administrations to ensure emergency preparedness and take necessary measures to respond to any weather-related situation.
Citizens have also been advised to remain cautious and follow official advisories.
