Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has expressed deep grief and anger over the tragic martyrdom of prominent religious scholar and JUI leader Sheikh Idrees and has called for a nationwide protest tomorrow, Friday.

According to a statement issued by JUI spokesperson Aslam Ghauri, full-scale protest demonstrations will be held at all provincial and district headquarters tomorrow against the martyrdom of Sheikh Idrees. He has appealed to the public to participate in these peaceful demonstrations and register their protest against terrorism.

JUI has directed preachers and imams across the country to deliver special sermons against terrorism and the peaceful ideology of Islam in Friday congregations and draw the state’s attention to its responsibilities of establishing peace.

In his statement, Aslam Ghori targeted the government and law enforcement agencies and said: “The rulers should not consider our peace-loving attitude as weakness; the murderers should be arrested immediately.”

There is unrest in the entire country, the blood of dozens of scholars is owed to the state, but the law enforcement agencies seem helpless. The current rulers neither can establish peace nor can they improve the economy.

The JUI spokesperson further said that the JUI is a peaceful party and conspiracies to derail it should be stopped. Commenting on the overall situation in the country, he said that rigging in elections, unrest, inflation, and injustice have undermined the foundations of the country. JUI has made it clear that until the killers of Sheikh Idrees are arrested and the law and order situation improves, their protest will continue.
