ISLAMABAD: The National Press Club Islamabad has expressed serious concern over the torture and detention of  young journalist Shahid Qureshi at Sarhad university Islamabad and strongly condemned the incident.

According to a statement issued by the press club, journalist Shahid Qureshi was allegedly subjected to a violent attack during a protest in Islamabad. The statement said the incident was deeply concerning and called for immediate action against those responsible.

National Press Club Secretary Dr Furqan Rao said journalists were performing their professional duties while covering the protest and should not be subjected to violence or intimidation. He said attacks on journalists is unacceptable and a serious violation of press freedom and fundamental rights.

The press club demanded that the relevant authorities conduct a transparent and impartial investigation, identify those responsible and take legal action against them in accordance with the law.

The statement further called for effective measures to prevent such incidents in the future and ensure the safety and security of journalists across the country.
