KARACHI: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested four individuals, including officials of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), over their alleged involvement in issuing fake identity documents to Afghan nationals.
According to an FIA spokesperson, those arrested include NADRA Assistant Director Inamul Haq, Deputy Assistant Director Fayyaz Ahmed, security guard Junaid Ahmed, and Muhammad Umar Shah.
Preliminary investigations suggest the suspects were allegedly involved in facilitating the issuance of fraudulent identity documents to Afghan nationals, tampering with official records, and engaging in other illegal activities.
The FIA said initial evidence also indicates possible links between the suspects and terrorist elements. During the operation, investigators seized key records and other material evidence, which are being examined as part of the ongoing inquiry.
Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry said the authorities had dismantled a network allegedly involved in providing Pakistani identity cards to Afghan nationals.
He added that the investigation had also uncovered alleged links between the suspects and recent terrorism-related incidents.
The FIA said further investigations are underway to identify other individuals who may have been involved in the alleged document forgery network.
