ISLAMABAD: Reacting to DW’s documentary on Pakistan’s nuclear programme, senior politician, author, and intellectual Mushahid Hussain Syed on Sunday termed the documentary “far from reality,” saying it was based on false and misleading claims.
Germany’s state-funded international broadcasting network Deutsche Welle (DW) has released an English-language documentary video titled “Pakistan — Nuclear Power at a Crossroad”. Commenting on the DW documentary, Mushahid Hussain while sharing his reaction on X, said that seeing this 52-minute documentary leaves little doubt that DeutscheWelle has done such a crude, intellectually dishonest, hatchet job of raising alarm about Pakistan’s nuclear program by questioning its legitimacy & safety, recycling old propaganda to link it to religious extremism!
He said that, for example, the documentary starts off with the laughable proposition that Pakistan ‘illegally developed’ The Bomb, as if there’s a legal path to acquiring nuclear weapons, which Germany’s friends like India & Israel may have pursued! Then this documentary goes on to say the Pakistan Government ‘officially revealed’ the Bomb via the nuclear tests in 1998, WITHOUT MENTIONING that Pakistan’s tests were in response to the nuclear tests of India, also the architect of nuclearisation of South Asia.
A fact that Deutsche Welle conveniently overlooks in its quest to demonise Pakistan! Given these low standards of professionalism of Germany’s ‘state-funded international broadcasting network’, it is perhaps no accident that Germany’s own international standing has fallen, since Germany suffered a humiliating defeat in elections to the UN Security Council in June 2026, losing to Austria & Portugal, he explained.
He said that ironically, this defeat at the UN coincided with the first anniversary of German Chancellor Merzl’s shocking acclaim of Israeli aggression against Iran in June 2025, when he said ‘Israel is doing our dirty work’ & ‘rules of international law do not apply to Iran’!
