Meta signs $100 billion deal with AMD

US technology giant Meta has signed a $100 billion deal to purchase artificial intelligence (AI) chips from semiconductor manufacturer Advanced Micro Devices (AMD). This agreement will also grant Meta a 10% stake in AMD, establishing it as a strategic partner.

Meta plans to acquire AMD’s latest MI450 chips to enhance the speed and performance of its data centres. This move aims to strengthen its AI infrastructure and gain a competitive advantage in the market.

The deal highlights the increasing demand for chips in the technology industry and the intense competition among companies, with major players investing billions to lead the AI race. It’s worth noting that OpenAI also formed a partnership with AMD last year, during which the ChatGPT creator acquired a stake in the company.
