PESHAWAR: Special Assistant on Information Shafi Jan said that the meeting of the founding chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, with his family is his legal right, and putting hurdles in this meeting is a clear violation of court orders.

Shafi Jan has confirmed that the founding chairman, Imran Khan’s sister, and her lawyers will go to Adiala Jail to meet him today. He expressed regret that, despite court orders, the Punjab government is continuously creating obstacles in the way of the meeting.

“Meeting of the political leadership and family with the founder of PTI is a constitutional and legal right that cannot be taken away under any circumstances.”

The Special Assistant announced that the party’s legal team and loyal workers will be present peacefully outside Adiala Jail to express solidarity with their leader. He clarified that PTI is a peaceful, constitutional, and democratic party, and its struggle is only for the supremacy of the constitution and law.

Striking at the government policies, Shafi Jan said that the federal and Punjab governments are afraid of Imran Khan’s public popularity, that is why he is being subjected to political revenge by keeping him in solitary confinement.

Referring to the current situation in the country, he said Imran Khan’s public support cannot be reduced by tactics of oppression and coercion. The federal government’s policy of “political revenge” has pushed the country into the quagmire of inflation and unemployment.

Instead of focusing on people-friendly policies, governments have become blind in crushing their political opponents. Shafi Jan vowed that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf will continue its peaceful struggle until the release of its leader and the restoration of true democracy.

He demanded that all illegal obstacles in the way of meeting Imran Khan be removed immediately, while respecting the court orders.
