PESHAWAR: Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Information and Public Relations, Shafi Jan, has said that the provincial government is taking practical steps for the welfare of journalists and is fully aware of the issues and challenges faced by the journalistic community.
He said that a free and responsible press plays a pivotal role in the strengthening of democracy.
He expressed these views while speaking at the oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected cabinet of Nowshera Press Club.
On the occasion, CM’s aide Shafi Jan congratulated the newly elected President, Tafheem-u-Rehman and all members of the cabinet, and extended his best wishes to them.
Talking to journalists, the Special Assistant said that the election of press club cabinets through transparent elections is a positive and commendable tradition and a reflection of democratic values. He said that the provincial government firmly believes in freedom of expression and is ensuring the provision of a better, safe, and conducive environment for journalists to perform their professional duties.
He further said that the issues faced by all press clubs across the province, including Nowshera, would be resolved on a priority basis, and the early release of the annual grant for Nowshera Press Club would also be ensured. He added that the provincial government stands with the journalist community in every difficult time and always welcomes positive and constructive criticism from journalists.
Meanwhile, Special Assistant Shafi Jan congratulated the entire nation on the advent of the New Year, saying that the New Year brings new hopes, renewed resolve, and the promise of a better future. He said that the year 2025 proved to be dark in Pakistan’s history due to unconstitutional amendments and attacks on democracy.
He prayed that the New Year may prove to be a year of progress and prosperity for the people of Pakistan.
