The Power Division has taken measures to provide relief to electricity consumers by reducing the expected fuel price adjustment for September to Rs2.56 per unit from nearly Rs6 per unit.

According to a statement issued by the Power Division, the measures are expected to save consumers from an additional burden of Rs3.44 per unit.

The statement said limited load management of around two to two-and-a-half hours was carried out in September to reduce the impact of expensive alternative fuels on electricity generation. Without these measures, the September fuel price adjustment could have reached Rs6 per unit.

The Power Division added that efforts were also made to limit the additional financial burden by reducing the impact of imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) prices. As a result, the September fuel price adjustment is expected to remain at Rs2.56 per unit.

The statement further warned that the availability of gas could become more limited during winter as household demand increases. It said re-gasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) would remain necessary for the power sector to maintain stability in the electricity system.
