United States and Iranian negotiators have reached a tentative agreement on a framework for a 60-day ceasefire extension deal, according to multiple sources cited by AFP, Reuters, Axios, and Al-Jazeera.
The proposed memorandum of understanding aims to prolong the current truce and establish a framework to launch formal negotiations regarding Iran’s nuclear program. However, despite negotiators largely finalising the terms of the agreement, the deal has yet to receive final approval from President Donald Trump.
According to sources familiar with the matter, the proposal has been briefed to the president, but he has requested additional time to review it before making a final decision.
While the White House initially declined to comment on the matter when contacted by Reuters, Al-Jazeera has reported that the White House is confirming the details originally published in the Axios report. On the other side of the negotiations, Iranian officials and state media have not yet issued any official comment or public confirmation regarding the status of the framework agreement.
