MARDAN: Police have arrested a serving constable in connection with the killing of a Sikh couple at a local Gurdwara in Mardan, marking a significant development in the investigation.
District Police Officer Mardan Masood Ahmad confirmed during a press briefing that the suspect, identified as Constable Sher Shah, son of Nadir Shah, a resident of Amaso Gari currently residing in Iranabad, has been taken into custody.
He said the weapon used in the incident, along with a motorcycle believed to have been used during the crime, was also recovered during the operation.
According to police, the accused had previously been posted on security duty at the same Gurdwara, giving him familiarity with the premises.
Authorities clarified that, at this stage of the investigation, no evidence has been found linking the suspect to any banned organization or militant group. However, officials described the suspect as having a reportedly extremist mindset, while noting that the motive behind the killing has not yet been fully determined.
The police chief said further interrogation is underway and that investigators expect more details to emerge soon regarding the circumstances and possible motive behind the incident.
