After the resignation of the two senior-most judges of the Supreme Court, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Athar Minallah, Judge of the Lahore High Court Justice Shams Mamood Mirza also resigned from his post, following disagreement with the 27th constitutional amendment.

Two days after the resignation of the senior-most judges of the Supreme Court, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Athar Minallah, a judge of the Lahore High Court also resigned from his post. According to the report, after the 27th Constitutional Amendment, the first judge of the Lahore High Court resigned in protest, while Justice Shamsh Mahmood Mirza of the Lahore High Court resigned. Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza sent his resignation to the President of Pakistan. Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza vacated his chamber. Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza was likely to be transferred after the 27th Constitutional Amendment. Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza was a member of the Administrative Committee of the Lahore High Court.

Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza took oath as an Additional Judge of the Lahore High Court on March 22, 2014. Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza was scheduled to retire in 2028. Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza is the son of former Supreme Court judge Justice Zia Mahmood Mirza. A reference was also filed in the Supreme Judicial Council by the public prosecutor against Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza in January this year.

In his 13-page resignation letter sent to the President, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah said that the 27th Constitutional Amendment is a serious attack on the Constitution of Pakistan. The 27th Constitutional Amendment has torn the Supreme Court of Pakistan to pieces. Justice Mansoor Ali Shah said that I served the institution with honor, honesty, and integrity, my conscience is clear, and I have no regrets in my heart, and I submit my resignation as the senior-most judge of the Supreme Court.
