LAHORE: At least 14 young children were killed and several others critically injured when the roof of a makeshift tuition center collapsed in the Kahna area on Tuesday.
The catastrophic structural failure occurred during afternoon classes at a private residence operating as a tuition center. According to rescue officials, more than 20 students and a teacher were instantly trapped under heavy debris when the roof, constructed of traditional iron T-girders and brick tiles, completely caved in.
Emergency first responders rushed to the scene immediately after the incident to initiate a grueling search-and-rescue operation, clawing through the rubble to extract victims.
The Medical Superintendent (MS) of the Kahna Tehsil Headquarter (THQ) Hospital confirmed the death toll, noting that the victims were predominantly young children aged between 8 and 10 years old. The deceased include eight girls and six boys.
Hospital authorities have identified several of the deceased children as Mahnoor (7), Ramsha (7), Tabisha (6), Fawad (8),
Ghulam Nabi (9), Murtaza (5) and Khadija (16)
The hospital management further disclosed that while six children identified as Abiha (8), Fariha (10), Murtaza (11), Ayan (8), Rabia (7), and a 30-year-old teacher, Hameeda Rehan are currently in stable condition, the status of 8 to 10 other children remains highly critical as doctors fight to save their lives.
