Prime Minister’s Adviser and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Ikhtiar Wali Khan has alleged that funds provided to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for maintaining law and order are being lost to corruption.

Speaking about the ongoing political situation, Ikhtiar Wali said all routes leading to Islamabad remained open, but Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) had so far failed to bring even 10,000 people onto the streets.

Referring to recent remarks by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, he said the chief minister had described himself as the province’s chief executive, while PTI leader Shaukat Yousafzai had claimed that no one followed the chief minister’s orders.

Ikhtiar Wali questioned how Sohail Afridi could be considered the chief executive if his orders were not being followed. He also claimed that only around 200 people were present with the chief minister at one point, arguing that bringing 5,000 to 6,000 people onto the streets would have little impact in a province as large as KP.

The PTI long march, led by Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, began from Lakki Marwat on Oct 4 and reached Kohat on Monday after passing through Karak.

The march is expected to proceed through Khyber district and Peshawar before reaching Swabi, where the party is expected to announce its next course of action.

Ikhtiar Wali also said protests were held in Peshawar, Nowshera and Mardan against the provincial government, with demonstrators calling on it to focus on improving governance.
