PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police has submitted a summary to the governor seeking increased salaries, security challenge allowances and additional funds for weapons, protective gear, surveillance systems and transport to strengthen its operational capacity.

According to the summary, police personnel in southern districts, including Dera Ismail Khan and Bannu, the Kohat region and all merged districts should receive a security challenge allowance equal to 120 per cent of their basic salary.

The proposal recommends an allowance of 100 per cent of basic pay for police personnel in other settled districts, while officers and personnel in the Hazara region would receive 75 per cent.

The summary notes that the KP Police has been fighting terrorism for the past three decades and argues that, despite its sacrifices, police salaries in the province remain lower than those in other provinces.

The proposed security challenge allowances would entail additional monthly expenditure of more than Rs5.159 billion, according to the document.

Rs13.87 Billion Sought for Weapons and Equipment

The KP Police has also sought an additional Rs13.871 billion for the purchase of weapons, modern equipment and transport, citing shortages caused by inadequate funding.

According to the summary, budgetary constraints have affected the availability of firearms, protective equipment, surveillance systems and mobility-related resources required for police operations.

The proposed purchases include submachine guns, MG-1A3 rifles and 5.56mm weapons, along with bulletproof jackets and ballistic helmets.

The police have also sought funds to procure drones, thermal weapon sights, binoculars and equipment designed to counter hostile drones. The proposal further includes armoured personnel carriers and single- and double-cabin pickup vehicles.

The summary stresses the need to modernise the police force’s equipment and maintain its operational readiness amid continuing security challenges.

Release of FY2026-27 Procurement Funds Sought

Separately, the KP Police has requested the release of funds allocated for procurement in the financial year 2026-27.

The request includes more than Rs11.16 billion for police procurement in settled districts and over Rs3.35 billion for the merged districts.

The funds are intended for the purchase of weapons, ammunition, vehicles, plant and machinery, ordnance stores and other essential equipment.

The summary calls for the immediate release of the allocated procurement budget to address shortages and ensure that the police can maintain operational preparedness.

The proposals seek to improve police personnel’s financial support while upgrading the force’s equipment and logistical capabilities. The summary’s submission does not, by itself, indicate that the proposed allowances or additional funds have been approved.
