LANDI KOTAL: The deteriorating condition of a government girls’ primary school in the remote area of Loe Shalman, Shin Pukh, Malik Imroz Kali, in Khyber district has raised serious concerns over the safety of students and the state of educational facilities in the area.
The school building is reportedly in such poor condition that parts of its roof and walls appear at risk of collapse, leaving students to attend classes in an unsafe environment and parents worried about their daughters’ safety.
Local residents have criticised the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership over what they describe as years of neglect of public education in remote areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. They say the condition of the school raises questions about the implementation of the party’s education reform promises during its years in power.
Residents have also pointed out that the school is located in the electoral constituency associated with PTI leader and former provincial assembly member Sohail Afridi. They argue that the poor state of the facility highlights the need for greater attention to basic public services, particularly girls’ education.
Students Face Unsafe Learning Conditions
The school building, according to local accounts, has deteriorated to the point where it resembles a ruin rather than a functioning educational institution. Crumbling walls and damaged ceilings have heightened fears of a possible accident.
Parents are reportedly under considerable stress, concerned that their daughters could be injured while attending classes. Residents say students should not have to risk their safety to receive a basic education.
The community has also questioned how education funds were utilised over the years, arguing that schools in remote areas continue to lack safe buildings and essential facilities despite repeated promises of educational reforms.
Call for Urgent Government Action
Residents of Loe Shalman and Malik Imroz Kali have urged Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi and senior education officials to take immediate notice of the school’s condition.
They have called for urgent repairs and rehabilitation of the building, along with the provision of basic educational facilities to ensure a safe learning environment for students.
The residents warned that further delays could place the students’ safety and educational future at greater risk. They urged the relevant authorities to inspect the building promptly and take practical measures to protect the girls and restore the school to a safe, functional condition.
