PESHAWAR:Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police’s operational capacity received a major boost on Tuesday as billions of rupees worth of modern armored vehicles, APCs, forklifts, single and double cabin vehicles and motorcycles were handed over to various districts and police units.
The ceremony was held at Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines Peshawar where Inspector General of Police KP Zulfiqar Hameed distributed keys to District Police Officers and senior officials. Additional IGPs, DIGs and other senior officers were also present.
IGP KP reviewed the operational capabilities of armored vehicles, double cabin vehicles and forklifts and was briefed on their use and effectiveness.
To ensure safer movement and protection of personnel in terrorism-affected districts, modern Dragon APCs were handed over to Tank, Hangu and Bara Swat. Other APCs were provided to Upper Dir and Mansehra police.
Modern Revo vehicles were given to DPOs of Kohat and Torghar. Hiace vans were provided for Peshawar, Mardan, Swat, Kohat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Abbottabad and the Telecommunication branch.
To further enhance district police operational capacity, 4×4 single cabin vehicles were given to Swat and Lower Dir, while 4×2 single cabin vehicles were provided to Hangu and Tank.
In addition, 33 forklifters were distributed among various districts and police units, and keys for 25 motorcycles were handed over to relevant DPOs.
Addressing the ceremony, IGP Zulfiqar Hameed said vehicles are being made bulletproof along with provision of modern Dragon APCs and single and double cabin vehicles to facilitate safe mobility for officers and personnel in terrorism-hit districts.
He said the upgrade of 84 APCs of KP Police with modern technology to make them more secure is underway, and more modern APCs will continue to be added to the force.
He added that last year side-armoring of police mobiles was also carried out so personnel on patrol could perform duties more safely.
The IGP said the 33 forklifters provided to various districts will play a key role in traffic management, eliminating illegal parking and reducing congestion on highways.
He stated that provision of modern APCs and pickup vehicles will further strengthen KP Police’s capacity and enable timely access to the public.
The provincial police chief said KP Police is being equipped with modern weapons, quality training, modern vehicles and latest gadgets to ensure lasting peace, effective policing and quality services for the public, and the process of enhancing police capacity will continue in future.
