PESHAWAR: Management Cadre Officers of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Education Department staged a protest outside Peshawar Press Club against the alleged decision to merge contract-based School Leaders into Assistant District Education Officer (ASDEO) posts.
The protesters said the Education Department had recruited School Leaders in 28 districts of the province in 2022 through an ETEA test. Their mandate was to monitor educational affairs at the tehsil and district level to improve the performance of government schools. The contract of School Leaders expired in December 2025 but was later extended.
They alleged that the department is now trying to adjust these temporarily recruited School Leaders against ASDEO posts in the Management Cadre. The protesters termed it “a robbery of the rights” of hundreds of educated youth from other districts, especially the tribal districts.
The Management Cadre Officers Association demanded that all vacant ASDEO posts be advertised and filled on merit through the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Public Service Commission. They said candidates for ASDEO posts are recruited through a formal competitive examination, and the direct merger of School Leaders would be an injustice to youth.
The protesters urged Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi and Education Minister Meena Khan Afridi to review the department’s decision and ensure transparent, merit-based recruitment of ASDEOs through KPPSC.
