PESHAWAR: The MPA Hostel, Officers’ Mess and Shahi Guest Houses in Peshawar have been closed amid an uncertain situation in the provincial capital, with key personalities and other occupants reportedly vacating the government residences.

According to official sources, all blocks of the MPA Hostel have been vacated, while the deployment of police and other law enforcement personnel inside and around the premises has been further increased.

Provincial ministers and members of the provincial assembly had already left the MPA Hostel amid the prevailing situation. However, some relatives of lawmakers were still staying there and reportedly vacated the premises on Monday.

Sources said some occupants left their belongings behind in their rooms while vacating the hostel. Entry to the premises has now been restricted, with a ban imposed on the entry of all individuals.

The Officers’ Mess and Shahi Guest Houses have also reportedly been cleared, where senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders had been staying.

There are also reports that PTI leaders from Punjab and Islamabad who were present in Peshawar have gone into hiding, although these reports have not been independently verified.

Meanwhile, government vehicles have reportedly been taken into custody as part of the wider security measures accompanying the evacuation of key government residences.

With security arrangements tightened across the city, movement around government residences and other important locations has been restricted.
