PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has completed all formalities to outsource 32 more public hospitals to the private sector, which are likely to be handed over to private administrative control soon.
According to officials, with the outsourcing of the new 32 hospitals, the total number of government hospitals being run under private sector management in the province will rise to 50.
Sources said the hospitals to be outsourced include 21 Category-D hospitals, 6 Category-B hospitals, and five Rural Health Centres. Officials stated that the main objective of outsourcing is to improve the administrative and medical systems of underperforming hospitals and to ensure provision of quality healthcare facilities to the public.
According to sources, the provision of specialist doctors and emergency services will be made mandatory in the hospitals being handed over to the private sector.
Furthermore, before taking over the management of hospitals, the financial status, administrative capacity, and required capability of the relevant private institutions will also be evaluated.
