PESHAWAR: A high-level meeting chaired by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi on the province’s security situation has decided to keep educational institutions closed for the day, remove containers from Peshawar in phases and partially restore internet services as required.

The meeting was attended by Adviser on Home Affairs Kifayatullah Khan, Chief Secretary Dr Muhammad Fakhr Alam Irfan, Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed, Additional Chief Secretary Home Amjad Ali Khan, Additional IG Special Branch Muhammad Kashif Alam, Additional IG Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Dr Mian Saeed, Joint Director General Intelligence Bureau Arshad Ali Khan and other relevant officials.

Officials briefed the governor on the overall security situation in the province, counterterrorism measures and recent developments.

The meeting also decided to increase the compensation package for police martyrs and review police salaries. It was further agreed that special attention would be given to the education and training of the families of police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty.

Governor Kundi appreciated the role of the administration and police, saying it was encouraging that no untoward incident had occurred amid the prevailing situation.

He said eliminating terrorism remained the government’s top priority, adding that the capabilities of the police and the CTD would be further strengthened to improve the province’s security.
