PESHAWAR: The process of demarcating boundaries for village councils as well as eleven cantonment boards in twenty-three districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has finally been completed and the final list has been made available to the public by the Provincial Election Commission.
According to a statement from the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), the process has reached its final stage as the objection period related to the preliminary list ended as per the regional election commissioners’ orders issued on April 15, 2026.
As many as 158 objections were registered regarding the boundaries for village councils and 28 objections were raised against the wards for cantonment boards during the objection period.
It is pertinent to mention here that this is an important milestone achieved before holding the upcoming local government elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Historic first: KP Assembly to hold session at cricket stadium
Meanwhile, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly has decided to hold its upcoming session at the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium, marking the first time in the province’s history that a legislative session will take place outside the traditional assembly hall.
Speaker of the KP Assembly, Babar Saleem Swati, announced on April 22 that the session would commence at 3:00 PM. According to the KP Assembly Secretariat, the notice for the special session had been sent out. Speaker Babar Saleem Swati will chair the session.
According to the KP Assembly Speaker, the most important aspect of the session being conducted in the cricket stadium would be that it would offer the general public the opportunity to evaluate the performance of their elected representatives. “By observing their representatives at close quarters, people will be able to judge the effectiveness of their elected leaders,” he added.
The Speaker added that this process is a part of the larger effort to facilitate the involvement of ordinary citizens in the legislative assemblies. “This is just one way to ensure direct interaction between the citizens and their representatives. In the coming days, similar events will be organized at various places in the province,” Swati said. He hoped that such initiatives would help build a stronger connection between the citizens and their representatives.
The resolution adopted by the Legislative Assembly has found support from not only the ruling party but also from the opposition, who agreed on the need to ensure accessibility of legislative processes to the citizens. The event is being organized jointly with the Departments of Sports, Police, and District Administration. Security arrangements have also been made.
Speaker Swati, along with Deputy Speaker Suraya Bibi, Secretary of the Assembly Syed Waqar Shah, and other provincial ministers, carried out an inspection tour of the cricket stadium for the necessary arrangements of the session.
