ISLAMABAD: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Khan Afridi held a high-level meeting with Leader of the Opposition and Tehreek-e-Tahafuz-e-Ain-e-Pakistan (TTAP) chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai at his residence in Islamabad.
The meeting focused heavily on the health of incarcerated former Prime Minister Imran Khan, the country’s prevailing political and constitutional landscape, and formulating a joint roadmap for future political movements.
Participants expressed grave concern over media reports regarding Imran Khan’s health, demanding his immediate removal from prolonged solitary confinement. The leaders stressed that Imran Khan must be granted unhindered access to his family and personal legal and medical teams. Demanding a comprehensive medical examination, the leadership called for his immediate transfer to Shifa International Hospital, emphasizing that state and relevant authorities bear absolute responsibility for his health and safety in custody.
It was decided to convene a joint session of all opposition parties shortly to review political, economic, administrative, and constitutional crises, leading to a unified course of action. Chief Minister Sohail Afridi took Mahmood Khan Achakzai into confidence regarding the planned anti-government long march.
Both leaders agreed that the march will be organized systematically with robust political strength and mass public participation, backed by ongoing consultations with other democratic forces. Furthermore, the meeting rejected any proposed legislation or constitutional amendments regarding the formation of new provinces, maintaining that major national decisions require a genuine public mandate and broad political consensus.
The leadership expressed deep concern over escalating lawlessness in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, attributing the instability to flawed federal security policies. They strongly demanded the immediate reopening of closed Pak-Afghan trade routes, noting that ongoing closures are devastating the livelihoods of local traders, transporters, drivers, and labourers in border regions.
Additionally, they stressed that local populations must have absolute decision-making power, economic stakes, and secure employment regarding regional minerals and natural resources. The leaders also condemned the reported violence against peaceful protesters, internet blackouts, and road closures in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
