ISLAMABAD: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has strongly reacted against the ban on meetings with PTI founder Imran Khan and announced a big public rally and protest in Liaquat Bagh, Rawalpindi on April 09.

Conducting an emergency press conference at KP House in Islamabad, Chief Minister Sohail Afridi said that the continuous ban on meetings with Imran Khan is extremely regrettable and illegal. “We have not protested for one and a half years, despite this, the ban on meetings with the PTI founder remains in place, which is a serious violation of basic human rights.” He said. The Chief Minister expressed concern over the family of Bushra Bibi not being allowed to meet her, calling it the worst example of political revenge.

Sohail Afridi criticized the federal government and said that there is a continuous attempt to wall up the PTI. He said that they have always adopted a democratic attitude and respected state institutions, took all constitutional and legal means but were not heard anywhere. Now the situation has become such that there is no other way left but to protest, so the protest has now become inevitable.

Regarding the rally to be held in Rawalpindi on April 9, the Chief Minister clarified that the rally will be held completely within the ambit of the constitution and law. A formal application for NOC will be submitted to the district administration. He warned that if NOC is not received, “we will protest where we were stopped”.

The Chief Minister KP appealed to the public to come out in large numbers on April 9 and record their stand. He added that political discrimination and reprisals will prove to be the final nail in the coffin of democracy, and now is the time for the people to raise their voices against the injustices being done to their leader.
