KP Assembly forms first-ever minority parliamentary caucus, JUI’s Askar Parvez appointed chairperson

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly has established its first-ever Minority Parliamentary Caucus to provide a formal platform for addressing issues concerning the province’s minority communities.

The official notification for the formation of the caucus was issued by the provincial assembly secretary on the directives of Speaker Babar Saleem Swati.

Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI) minority lawmaker Askar Parvez has been appointed as the caucus’s first chairperson. He has been elected to the provincial assembly for a second term on a minority seat.

The caucus will comprise 20 members, in addition to the newly appointed chairperson. Provincial Assembly Secretary Syed Waqar Shah, along with former minority MPAs Wazirzada and Ravi Kumar, have been included as “Friends of the Caucus”.

The establishment of the caucus marks the first such initiative in the history of the KP Assembly and is aimed at strengthening parliamentary representation and addressing matters related to minority communities.
