PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has announced summer vacations for educational institutions, providing relief to students, parents and teachers ahead of the summer season.
According to the Education Department, schools located in plains of the province will be closed from May 22 to August 31, 2026. At first, the summer break was going to commence on June 1 and last till August 31; however, some changes were made because of Eid holidays and weekly closings.
As officials say, May 22 will fall on a Friday and it will be followed by the weekend, so it is more convenient to use this day as a starting point for summer break. The purpose of the move is to minimize any unnecessary travel and provide safety and convenience for students and teaching staff.
As far as hills in the province are concerned, the schedule of summer break there has already been set. Schools in the area will be closed from July 1 to July 31, 2026, with August 1 being the date of their reopening.
The reason behind the decision was the intensity of heat, Eid holidays, and the overall academic schedule. It should be noted that parents have been advised to supervise their children during summer break.
KP govt announces major relief for government employees
Earlier, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Finance Minister Muzammil Aslam has announced that salaries will be released to government employees of the province on May 20 amid Eid al-Azha preparations.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced the release of salaries to government employees a week before Eid. So that government employees can do their Eid shopping on time.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Finance Minister Muzammil Aslam has said that in view of Eid-ul-Azha, it has been decided to pay salaries early to provide timely financial facilities to employees.
On the other hand, markets, bazaars, and shopping malls in Islamabad have been temporarily exempted from the restriction on business hours.
According to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division, all shops, bazaars, and shopping malls in the federal capital will be exempted from the restriction on working hours until May 31.
The notification states that bakeries, tandoors, restaurants, and grocery stores will also be exempted from this restriction, while this decision will come into effect immediately.
According to the Cabinet Division, this step has been taken with the approval of the Prime Minister to facilitate business activities.
