PESHAWAR: Cricket lovers in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province have something to cheer about as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has approved the organization of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Champions League (KCL). The new championship is expected to bring a big boost to the cricket activities in the province.
As part of the celebrations marking the country’s Independence Day and the historic ‘Battle of Truth’, the KCL will kick off from August 14 in Peshawar and conclude on August 23. The matches in the competition will all take place at the renowned Imran Khan Cricket Stadium which is sure to provide a wonderful platform to budding cricketers.
Six leading teams from the province including Abbottabad Eagles, Swat Titans, Peshawar Panthers, Khyber Warriors, Mardan Challengers and D.I. Khan Stalins will fight for supremacy in the new tournament. The competition promises exciting games for the fans and aims to encourage healthy recreational activities among youngsters in the area.
“With the KCL, a lot of young talent can be unearthed and a healthy cricket culture promoted in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province,” organizers have announced. Several international cricketers have also been invited to participate in the new tournament.
Kalash tribe cricketer Saira Jabeen makes history with Pakistan T20 debut
Meanwhile, Saira Jabeen, a 25-year-old all-rounder hailing from the Kalash tribe of Chitral in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province made her international debut for Pakistan in the opening women’s T20 game against Zimbabwe.
Saira, who is currently enrolled at Conard College in Lahore, has already established herself in local cricket by playing for Strikers Women’s team. But in her debut international game, she could only score five runs in five deliveries.
Despite not performing well on the debut, her selection for Pakistan has been hailed as a milestone for the Kalash tribe and women’s cricket in Pakistan.
