ISLAMABAD: The construction costs of Mohmand and Dasu dams have witnessed a significant rise, as the Ministry of Water Resources has officially presented documents to the National Assembly showing the increased cost of these projects.
The cost of both the dams has increased by about Rs 1.607 trillion, as per the documents provided by the Ministry. While the cost of constructing the Mohmand dam has gone up from Rs 309 billion to Rs 665.74 billion, the construction cost of Dasu Dam has increased from Rs 486 billion to Rs 1.737 trillion.
The Dasu Hydropower Project will start production of electricity in 2027, as told by the officials, after updating their chairman about its revised plans.
The new PC-I for the Mohmand Dam is now pending for approval at the Ministry of Planning. In the case of the Dasu Hydropower Project, the second revision of the PC-I was approved back in December 2025.
Moreover, the money allotted to the communities living near the projects for development activities has increased greatly. This includes Rs 160 million to Rs 4.5 billion for Mohmand Dam and Rs 7 billion to Rs 57 billion for Dasu Dam.
Officials stressed that the new amount of money would help the people who are affected by these projects and make sure that these important hydroelectric power projects continue.
