ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad administration has decided to prohibit the entry of vehicles without E-Tags into the federal capital from January 1, officials said.

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said that from January 1, entry of vehicles without e-tags, commonly known as M-tags, will be banned in Islamabad, as part of a broader plan to integrate technology and ensure citizen safety.

Following directives issued by the interior minister, authorities will begin taking action against vehicles not fitted with M-Tags. Deputy Commissioner Islamabad has instructed officials to speed up the M-Tag registration and installation process at all designated points across the city.

According to the district administration, 16 M-Tag registration points have been established at various locations in Islamabad to facilitate vehicle owners. Since November 14, nearly 100,000 vehicles have been issued M-Tags, the deputy commissioner said.

Officials added that vehicles without M-Tags will be identified through electronic tag readers installed at key entry points and checkpoints across the city. Once the tag readers become fully operational on January 1, enforcement action against non-compliant vehicles will begin.

Deputy Commissioner Irfan Memon urged citizens to ensure their vehicles are fitted with M-Tags at the earliest to avoid legal complications, stressing that the initiative aims to improve traffic management and security in the capital.
