ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif  announced that the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding has been singed by the leaders of both countries of United states of America and Iran.

According to the announcement, the memorandum was signed by the presidents of the United States and Iran and endorsed by Pakistan in its capacity as mediator.
The agreement reflects both sides’ commitment to pursuing a diplomatic resolution to their dispute.
Under the first phase of the understanding, Iran will immediately reopen the Strait of Hormuz, while the United States will lift its naval blockade as an initial confidence-building measure.
Pakistan, with the support of Qatar as co-mediator, has announced that an official ceremony to mark the agreement will be held in Switzerland on June 19, 2026.
The event will also serve as the launch of technical-level negotiations aimed at implementing the accord and advancing broader dialogue between the two countries.
The Pakistani leadership praised the role of US President Donald Trump, saying his commitment to diplomacy and peaceful conflict resolution had helped avert a crisis that could have had serious consequences for the region and beyond.
The announcement also acknowledged the contributions of the US negotiating team, including J. D. Vance, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
PM on his tweet further praised Iranian Supreme Leader Mujtaba Hosseini Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian for their role in supporting efforts aimed at achieving peace.
Members of the Iranian negotiating team were also recognised for their contribution to the process.
The statement highlighted the constructive role played by Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Egypt in facilitating dialogue and supporting mediation efforts throughout the negotiations.
Special recognition was given to Asim Munir, with Pakistani officials describing his efforts and commitment as instrumental in achieving the diplomatic breakthrough.
According to Pakistani authorities, the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding has the potential to lay the groundwork for lasting peace, mutual respect and shared prosperity across the region, while opening a new chapter in US-Iran relations through sustained diplomatic engagement.
