Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei has described relations with Pakistan as very good, saying increased exchanges between the two countries in recent months have helped improve bilateral ties.
According to Wana News Agency, Baghaei said in a statement that the Iranian government had continued the policy of former President Ebrahim Raisi, who sought to strengthen relations with all neighbouring countries.
He said Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s upcoming visit to Iran would focus on bilateral issues. He added that a senior official from Pakistan’s finance or economic sector would also accompany Naqvi.
In an interview with Iranian television, Baghaei said the visit was aimed at advancing agreements signed by the presidents of the two countries. He added that as Pakistan was serving as a mediator, the exchange of messages during such visits was a natural part of the process.
The Iranian spokesperson said the visit would remain focused on bilateral matters and reviewing the implementation of previously agreed understandings. He added that he had no information about any US message or specific proposal being conveyed through the visit.
Pakistan and Iranian foreign ministers are also expected to meet in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session. Pakistan has confirmed that diplomatic contacts between the two countries will continue.
Baghaei also said Iran would continue its diplomatic activities despite recent tensions involving the country.
He claimed that an agreement reached with Washington in Islamabad contained mechanisms to address possible violations, but said the United States had ended the agreement and resumed a naval blockade. He also described claims of attacks on three naval vessels as unsubstantiated.
Separately, Iranian National Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei said Qatar and Pakistan, acting as intermediaries, had been informed of Tehran’s conditions for negotiations with the United States.
According to Arab media reports, Rezaei said consultations with the Qatari and Pakistani intermediaries were continuing and that Tehran had conveyed its conditions to Washington through Qatar.
