PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Muhammad Sohail Afridi on Thursday said that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has recently revealed in its report that the federal government is involved in the Rs 5,300 billion corruption.
Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Muhammad Sohail Afridi, stated this during an event held at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Peshawar.
Sohail Afridi mentioned that previously, students would spend time searching for employers, but today, 2,000 students have registered with various companies. He highlighted that the provincial government is developing a comprehensive internship policy for graduating students and assured that students who are unable to complete their education for any reason will not be left alone.
He expressed his happiness at the large number of female students pursuing engineering, stating, “Our daughters are no less than anyone.” He also emphasised the importance of being aware of the upcoming NFC meeting on December 4.
The Chief Minister pointed out that although the tribal districts were merged with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in 2018, they are still not receiving their rightful benefits. He remarked that the financial merger of these districts has not been completed, resulting in ongoing neglect by the federation. While the province is entitled to 19.4 per cent of the NFC, only 14.6 per cent is currently being allocated. This discrepancy in NFC funding is causing the province to lose approximately Rs 400 billion each year.
The Chief Minister announced that seminars are being held in all universities across the province every Monday to protest this injustice. He stated that the federal government owes Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Rs 1,300 billion in NFC allocations and Rs 2,200 billion in net hydel profits. According to an IMF report, there has been a corruption scandal involving Rs 5,300 billion at the federal level, leading to the nation’s wealth being misappropriated and invested in properties abroad.
He urged the youth of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to question corruption. He noted that Seerat-un-Nabi (peace be upon him) is taught at the Al-Qadir Trust and questioned the basis on which Imran Khan was held accountable. He asked why no one is demanding accountability from those responsible for the Rs 5,300 billion corruption.
The Chief Minister pledged that as long as he lives, he will continue to raise his voice against corruption until his last breath.
