SHANGLA: Karakoram highway blocked in Bisham due to heavy downpour and flood as illegal mining and mountainside debris diverted water flow toward this vital road artery leading to Northern areas through Hazara division.
A flood situation arose in Basham, the main city of Shangla district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and the international Karakoram Highway was closed when heavy rains caused rivers to overflow and debris from cutting mountains and dumping them into the rivers became a flood.
According to police sources, the Karakoram Highway was closed at various places in Bisham, and passengers were stranded on both sides, but the highway was temporarily reopened after several hours of operation. According to reports, heavy rains in the areas of Shangla Bisham caused rivers to overflow, causing difficulties for the local population.
Local people have expressed serious concerns over the continuous illegal felling of mountains and dumping of debris into rivers and demanded that the relevant institutions take immediate action and stop this illegal mining near the population.
Currently, this mountain cutting is ongoing in several places in the same place and the mountains are being cut down due to illegal mining, which poses a potential threat to the thousands of people living along this vital supply road.
