ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) has said power supply to more than 4.2 million consumers across its six operation circles continue and no load management is carried out during the daytime.

In a press release issued here on Saturday, it said the situation changes in the evening when electricity consumption rises sharply. Limited load management is then carried out on some feeders, depending on the availability of power from the National Grid.

IESCO said no feeder is being subjected to load management for more than two to two-and-a-half hours in a 24-hour period. The company added that the practice is stopped once the required electricity quota is received from the National Grid.

The increase in demand has been driven partly by the hot and humid weather, which has led to heavier use of air conditioners, fans and other cooling appliances. The resulting pressure on the system has also caused more feeder faults and transformer-related problems.

IESCO stressed that every power interruption is not necessarily load management. Outages caused by feeder faults or transformer failures are technical issues and may take time to resolve.

The company said its operation teams are working in the field to deal with such complaints and restore supply. IESCO has asked consumers to cut down on unnecessary electricity use during peak evening hours, when demand is at its highest. Consumers can report power-related complaints at the company’s 24-hour helpline 118.
