A unique grave-digging competition was held in a cemetery in Hungary, in which 38 people took part.
The competition took place at a municipal cemetery in the northern Hungarian town of Nyírgyesfalva. 19 two-person teams participated. The dry and hard soil due to intense heat made the challenge even tougher for the contestants. However, all teams kept trying to outdo each other in digging a grave according to the required standards.
In the competition, not only speed but also the neatness and accurate measurements of the grave were given importance. The winning team of Robert Nagy and Laszlo Kish secured first place by digging a grave in just 1 hour and 21 minutes.
According to the competition rules, the grave was required to be 1.6 meters deep, 2 meters long, and 0.8 meters wide. The winning team was awarded a prize of 200,000 Hungarian Forints, approximately 640 US dollars.
According to the winner, Robert Nagy, while speed is important in grave-digging, accurate measurements and proper finishing of the grave are also extremely essential during an actual burial.
