PESHAWAR: Heavy rainfall continued across Peshawar and its surrounding areas, with reports of rainwater entering homes in some localities, prompting authorities to place emergency services on high alert.
According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), persistent rains expected from July 19 to 23 could trigger urban flooding in cities and landslides in mountainous regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department said the prevailing weather system is affecting both the upper and lower parts of the province.
Over the next two to four hours, strong winds, thunderstorms and rain, including heavy downpours at isolated locations, are expected in Swabi, Mardan, Peshawar, Nowshera, Cherat, Haripur, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Karak, Kohat, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Tank, Dera Ismail Khan, North and South Waziristan, and adjoining areas.
On the directives of Rescue 1122 Director General Shah Fahad, all district rescue services have been placed on high alert.
Rescue 1122 spokesperson Bilal Ahmad Faizi said rescue stations across the province have deployed personnel, ambulances, water rescue teams, emergency vehicles and essential equipment to respond swiftly to any weather-related emergencies.
Authorities have urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall, stay away from storm drains, flood channels and low-lying areas, and exercise caution near weak buildings, electricity poles and hanging power lines.
Rescue 1122 said it is continuously monitoring the evolving weather situation and has mobilized all available resources to ensure public safety.
Citizens have been advised to follow weather updates issued by the Pakistan Meteorological Department and comply with instructions from local authorities.
