ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Religious Affairs is introducing a major administrative change for the Hajj 2027 scheme, with only one bank now expected to handle applications and financial transactions for both the government and private Hajj schemes.

According to sources, unlike previous years when 16 banks participated in receiving applications, all online and branch-based payments for Hajj 2027 will be processed exclusively through Habib Bank Limited (HBL).

Sources said applicants will be able to submit their applications and deposit related expenses through HBL branches as well as its digital banking system. All financial matters related to the government and private Hajj schemes will be managed through the bank under the new arrangement.

An agreement between the Ministry of Religious Affairs and HBL is expected to be signed soon, after which the final mechanism for application submission and payments will be formally announced.

The selection of HBL was reportedly made due to its extensive branch network and available banking facilities, according to sources in the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

The ministry is expected to begin receiving applications for the government Hajj scheme this week, while the detailed schedule for Hajj 2027 applications will be announced soon.

Pakistan has been allocated a total Hajj quota of 179,210 pilgrims for the upcoming season. Under the approved quota distribution, 60 percent has been allocated to the government scheme and 40 percent to the private scheme.

Under the government Hajj scheme, 107,832 pilgrims will be able to perform Hajj, while 71,888 pilgrims will travel through private Hajj operators.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs is expected to issue further details regarding application procedures and payment arrangements after completion of the agreement with HBL.
