LAHORE: The Punjab government has announced that salaries and pensions for government employees and pensioners will be disbursed ahead of Eid al-Adha.

In an official notice released by the Punjab Finance Department, the salaries for May will be paid out on May 21, 2026, thus making sure that all the civil servants get their payments before the upcoming holiday.

The Punjab Finance Department has given instructions to concerned organizations to see that the money is disbursed on time and has also given orders to the State Bank of Pakistan and banks to cooperate in the process.

This is an effort on the part of the government to make sure that public servants and pensioners have enough money to celebrate Eid conveniently.

Good news for government employees: Salary, Pension hikes expected soon

Moreover, ahead of the federal budget for 2026-27, government employees and pensioners may see a significant financial relief as the government considers increasing salaries and pensions.

Sources claimed that some proposals under consideration include a 7% increase in the salary for working government officials and employees and a 5% increase in pensions for retirees. It has been made clear by the officials of the Ministry of Finance that these proposals are under consideration and final decisions regarding these matters will be taken depending upon the financial situation of the country. Official announcements regarding this issue have not been made yet.

According to the latest figures provided by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, inflation has hit 10.9% in April 2026, which is much more than the projected range of 8-9% by the ministry. Inflation increased to 11.1% in urban areas, while it remained at 10.6% in rural areas against 7.3% last month.

With increasing prices of essential commodities, officials and pensioners in the public sector are expecting a hefty package in the next budget.
