ISLAMABAD: Astronomers have forecast that Eid al-Adha in Pakistan is likely to fall on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, based on lunar calculations, according to scientific estimates.

According to experts, the new moon is expected to be born in the early hours of May 17–18, 2026, at approximately 1:15 a.m. local time. By the evening of May 17, the moon’s age is expected to exceed 18 hours, making it potentially visible if weather conditions remain clear.

On this basis, astronomers suggest that the first day of Dhul-Hijjah is likely to begin on May 18, placing Eid al-Adha on May 27. However, if the crescent moon is not sighted on May 17 due to weather or visibility conditions, the Islamic month of Dhul-Qadah may complete 30 days, shifting Eid to May 28, 2026.

Experts emphasize that despite scientific projections, the final announcement of Eid’s date will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee after official moon sighting.

Earlier, the Ruet-e-Hilal Research Council also indicated a strong possibility of Eid al-Adha being observed on May 27, aligning with astronomical data.

Eid al-Adha, one of Islam’s most significant religious festivals, is observed on the 10th of Dhul-Hijjah and commemorates the devotion and sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim (AS).
