ISLAMABAD: The federal government has announced a reduction in the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel, with the revised rates taking effect from October 20, 2026.

According to a notification issued by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), the price of high-speed diesel has been reduced by Rs7.69 per litre, bringing it down from Rs396.96 to Rs389.27 per litre.

The price of petrol, also known as motor spirit, has been cut by Rs5.16 per litre, lowering its rate from Rs386.30 to Rs381.14 per litre.

According to the Ministry of Energy’s Petroleum Division, the revised prices were determined under the federal government’s pricing mechanism after reviewing international market trends, international petroleum product prices, premiums and other related costs.

The reduction is expected to provide some relief to consumers amid high transportation and living expenses. However, the extent to which the lower fuel prices affect transport fares and the prices of everyday goods will depend on subsequent market adjustments.

The new rates will remain applicable from October 20, as specified in the notification.
