LAHORE: The government has decided to verify students through the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) for Phase II of the Laptop Scheme, as authorities continue preparations for the programme’s second round.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the Laptop Steering Committee, which also discussed the implementation of the next phase. However, the committee did not finalise a timeline for the launch of laptop distribution, leaving thousands of eligible students awaiting an official schedule.
According to officials, formal approval for the second phase will be sought from the chief minister through a summary before the distribution process begins.
The Higher Education Department has yet to prepare the distribution schedule for Phase II. Meanwhile, several students in the Sahiwal Division who qualified under the first phase are still awaiting the laptops promised to them.
The government aims to distribute 100,000 laptops to students under the second phase of the merit-based scheme. The initiative was launched last year, with more than 40,000 laptops distributed to eligible students during the first phase.
Students are now awaiting the official announcement regarding the commencement of Phase II and the distribution schedule.
