The Cabinet Committee on Sugar Exports, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, has approved the export of 200,000 metric tonnes of sugar.
The committee finalised the modalities for the export and approved the formation of a monitoring committee to regularly oversee sugar prices in the domestic market.
Dar directed the relevant ministries to speed up the export process by resolving outstanding issues without delay.
According to the committee, the move is aimed at supporting the sugar industry and sugarcane growers, increasing foreign exchange earnings and safeguarding the interests of domestic consumers.
The meeting was attended by the Minister for National Food Security, Minister for Climate Change, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Bajwa, the secretaries of Commerce and National Food Security and Research, along with other federal and provincial officials and relevant stakeholders.
