Google has integrated its popular Maps service into the Gemini AI app, allowing users to access map-related features directly within the AI platform.

The feature is currently available only on mobile devices. According to reports, Google had been testing the new Maps tool since February 2026 before rolling it out to Android and iOS devices.

The Maps option appears in the Gemini app alongside tools such as Photos, Camera, Avatar, Files, Drive and Notebooks.

When users select the Maps tool, their current location is displayed on the map, with the surrounding area highlighted.

Users can zoom in and out to explore the map and search for specific locations. The Explore this area option also allows users to ask Gemini questions about different places shown on the map, making it easier to explore nearby locations and obtain information through the AI assistant.

The Maps tool is currently limited to Gemini’s mobile app. However, Google may introduce the feature to the desktop version in the future.
