ISLAMABAD: The federal government has launched Pakistan’s first National Power Sector Innovation Programme, allocating more than Rs1 billion over the next three years to support young innovators, researchers and entrepreneurs working on solutions to the country’s energy challenges.
Federal Minister for Energy Awais Leghari formally inaugurated the programme, describing it as a major step toward promoting research, technology and innovative solutions in the power sector.
Under the initiative, a dedicated digital platform will serve as an “Innovation Hub,” bringing together young people, researchers, universities and energy experts from across Pakistan.
The programme will provide financial support for promising and viable projects, with each successful young innovator eligible to receive up to Rs500,000 in compensation for an approved innovative project.
The government will also provide mentorship, technical guidance and financial assistance to selected participants as they develop their ideas.
According to the Power Division, more than Rs1 billion will be allocated over the next three years to support successful projects and help transform research and innovative concepts into practical industrial solutions.
He said the initiative aims to develop sustainable solutions to Pakistan’s energy-sector challenges and create a stronger link between research, innovation and industry.
Leghari described the programme as a long-term institutional initiative rather than a temporary scheme, stressing that the power sector requires greater innovation, creative thinking and sustained effort to address its challenges.
