ISLAMABAD: The Italian government announced that it will start granting work permits to Pakistani skilled workers which marks a significant step toward establishing legal migration routes between the two countries.
The announcement occurred during a meeting between Pakistan interior minister Mohsin Naqvi and Italian minister Matteo Piantedosi which took place in Rome.
Italian authorities plan to create work visa programs which will enable Pakistan skilled workers to enter the country. The two parties decided to provide visa exemptions for all Pakistani diplomatic passport holders.
The two ministers studied multiple techniques for improving domestic security operations while preventing unauthorized border entry and creating secure pathways for lawful migration. They also evaluated the current methods used to prevent human smuggling and fight drug trafficking operations.
Mohsin Naqvi informed Italian officials that improved airport and sea border surveillance has resulted in decreased unauthorized immigration activities. He also showed proof of Pakistan’s progress in fighting human trafficking and drug-related crimes.
The officials reported that both nations achieved successful discussions which resulted in improved security and work mobility agreements between their countries.

Meanwhile, the Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis, Chaudhry Salik Hussain, announced that passports of certain individuals involved in illegal activities abroad are being blocked.
He explained to a private news channel that the government is bent upon halting the travel of anyone through unauthorized means. “There is no visa for begging. Some people are taking Umrah visas to Saudi Arabia and then resorting to begging,” he explained.
Chaudhry Salik Hussain announced that authorities have blocked passport access for thousands of criminal offenders who now face a five-year passport renewal ban.
The government should establish permanent policies according to his statement, because businesses experience negative effects when policies undergo frequent alterations.
The minister said that 20,000 Pakistanis in Spain will be granted residency cards to work abroad, which is the main source of remittances for Pakistan. “Never before have such a large number of Pakistanis been sent abroad for employment in the past year,” he said.
Chaudhry Salik told Pakistanis intending to work abroad that they must develop soft skills to succeed at their workplaces, while he confirmed that immigration complaints are resolved. The system requires license holders to follow specific conditions, which will help maintain correct license operations.
