PESHAWAR: Four major historical and archaeological sites in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been added to UNESCO’s World Heritage Tentative List, giving the province’s cultural heritage greater international recognition.
Director General of Archaeology KP Abdul Samad said the sites included the Bhamala Buddhist Complex, Sethi House in Peshawar, Gor Khatri Archaeological Complex and the ancient site of Bazira in Barikot, Swat.
According to the director general, the four sites were added to the UNESCO tentative list on May 11, 2026.
He described the development as an important step towards securing global recognition for KP’s rich historical and cultural heritage.
Director General Samad said the inclusion would also help promote the preservation and protection of the province’s archaeological sites while highlighting their historical significance at the international level.
