The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in Peshawar has arrested a group allegedly involved in distributing counterfeit Pakistani currency across the country and recovered fake notes worth Rs14.7 million.
The FIA’s Anti-Corruption Circle Peshawar foiled an attempt to send counterfeit currency to different cities through courier services, arresting a key suspect during the operation.
According to the FIA, the action was launched following a complaint, after which officials traced courier parcels containing counterfeit currency. During the investigation, the agency arrested Zaid Zaib, son of Alam Zaib Khan, a resident of Gharibabad in Shabqadar tehsil.
The FIA said initial interrogation indicated that the suspect allegedly received counterfeit notes from an organised group involved in producing or supplying fake currency and facilitated their distribution to various cities through courier parcels.
A case has been registered against the arrested suspect and other unidentified suspects under relevant laws, the agency said.
Further investigation is underway to trace the source of the counterfeit currency, its supply chain and the wider network involved in its distribution. The FIA said action would be taken against all those found involved in the illegal trade in accordance with the law.
